Learn All About the Rocket City

Huntsville is ASmartPlace®. Known as “The Rocket City” for our role in space exploration and putting man on the moon, we have a long legacy of innovation. We are the home of Space Camp® which has hosted more than a million students from around the world since it was founded 42 years ago, including Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch!

Our public schools are strong and ensure students have opportunities to prepare them for higher education or the workforce. In fact, 90 percent of K-12 students attend public schools in our county. Our schools especially focus on science, technology, engineering, and math, which are high-demand career fields in the area. We also have award-winning music and theatre programs in our public schools. We also have many private school options.

Nearly half of our residents are not “from” here, creating an atmosphere that welcomes newcomers and treats you like family. We are also highly supportive of military families and are prepared to assist you with various aspects of your move and transition, should you choose to call Huntsville home.

Huntsville is at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and on the banks of the Tennessee River. Our area is also less than a three-hour drive from Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, and Chattanooga, and a five-hour drive from the Gulf Coast.
