Pammie Jimmar is President and CEO of the Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce. She moved to Alabama from her native Georgia in 2012. She enjoys spending time with her family, shopping, and watching her son Dallas perform in professional theatre shows.
Q: Where do you live?
I live in beautiful city of Athens, Alabama, 34 miles from Huntsville with a 36-minute drive by automobile.
Q: Where are you from and how did you get to the Redstone region?
I was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia — proudly known as the home of The Masters Tournament. In 2012, my family made the decision to relocate to north Alabama to be closer to family, and it has proven to be one of the best decisions we have ever made, both personally and professionally.
Our journey in the region began in Harvest, Alabama, located in Limestone County and just a short drive from Huntsville. We spent four wonderful years there before moving to Athens, where we have truly found a place to call home.
What we discovered here was more than just a growing community – we found a welcoming region filled with opportunity, strong values, and genuine connections. From the people and schools to the quality of life and sense of community, Athens and Limestone County offer the perfect balance of progress and hometown charm. It is a place where families can thrive, businesses can grow, and relationships matter.
We are proud to call Athens, AL home and grateful to be part of such a vibrant and welcoming community.
Q: If you raised/are raising kids, please share about their education experience:
As a transplant family, one of the things that meant the most to us was how quickly our son found a sense of belonging. While enrolled at Monrovia Middle School, he discovered his passion for the arts through Musical Theatre, and that experience helped shape both his confidence and future aspirations.
Throughout middle school and high school, he flourished academically and creatively. What stood out most to me was the way the schools embraced and supported the arts, creating an environment where students were encouraged not only to succeed academically, but also to pursue their passions. The schools cultivated a strong sense of community that allowed him to grow, thrive, and truly find his place.
Today, our son is a college graduate with a degree in Musical Theatre and is thriving in Philadelphia as he builds his professional career. Looking back, we are incredibly grateful for the educators, programs, and supportive community that helped nurture his talents and prepared him for the next chapter of his life.
Q: What is an ideal weekend for you?
My perfect weekend in Athens always starts on Friday evening in downtown Athens, where the Square comes alive with energy, music, and small-town charm. I love strolling through the local boutiques like Dottie Jewel Clothing and Pimentos, popping in and out of shops while live music drifts through the streets. Dinner is usually one of my favorite parts of the night — whether it’s a fresh deli sandwich from Wildwood Deli or seafood and coastal-inspired dishes at The Salty Cod, downtown Athens has a way of turning a simple evening into something memorable. It truly feels like Hallmark movie charm, only better because it’s real.
Saturday is all about enjoying everything Limestone County has to offer outdoors. I’ll stop by the Farmers Market for fresh local finds before heading to Isom’s Orchard for seasonal treats and fresh-picked produce. If the weather is nice, there’s nothing better than spending time on the Richard Martin Trail, taking in the beautiful scenery and peaceful views that make North Alabama so special.
By Sunday, life slows down in the best way. We drive over to Mildred’s Buffet in Ardmore, time spent relaxing in a rocking chair, and the comfort of good food and familiar faces remind me why I love calling this place home.

This region welcomes people with open arms. Whether you are raising a family, starting a new chapter, or simply looking for a place that feels like home, you’ll find that here.
