Damon Feltman is a retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General who now serves as CEO of the Space Force Association. His military service included serving as Mobilization Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Space Operations, Strategy, Plans, Programs, Requirements, and Analysis, United States Space Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia.
Q: Where do you live?

Q: Where are you from and how did you get to the Redstone region?
I grew up in Northwest Mississippi, just south of Memphis. My father’s family is from about two hours west of Huntsville, and I’ve been familiar with the area most of my life.
Q: If you raised/are raising kids in the Redstone region, please share about their education experience.
Both my sons were finishing college when we moved here, and both have since relocated here, too. I’ve collaborated with the University of Alabama at Huntsville and Auburn’s Research and Innovation Center many times while here and have been very impressed by the quality of the staff, facilities, and capabilities of the students coming through their programs.
Q: What is an ideal weekend for you?
There always seems to be something good going on over the weekends. We’ve lived here for 3 years and always find something to do. For my spouse and I, during the warmer months we often start our Friday afternoon at the Harbor on Lake Guntersville for dinner, and on Saturday mornings, we have a favorite café near downtown we frequent. There always seems to be something happening at the Von Braun Center, either concerts or exhibits. Scattered throughout the week we attend the Rocket Center’s Beer Garden Under the Saturn V and Cosmos and Cocktails in the Planetarium. We’ve gone to both minor league sports teams’ events, music events at Von Braun Center and Sand Mountain, and art festivals in Big Spring Park.
Q: What is one thing you would like Space Command personnel to know about the region?
The quality of life is fantastic. I lived in Colorado Springs and the Front Range for 14 of 31 years of service and it was my home as much as any place could be. Living here has felt good, more relaxed. The space culture here is genuine and runs deeper. It’s a great “little big city” with plenty to do and keep you home, and also easy accessibility to other areas of the like Nashville, Atlanta, Memphis, and the Gulf Coast if you want to go explore.
